Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we practice?

Prince William Aquatics Center at Colgan High School – 13833 Dumfries Road, Door #25, Manassas, VA 20112. The pool entrance is located in the back of the school, near the football fields.

Jeff Rouse Center – 1600 Mine Rd, Stafford, VA 22554. The pool is located to the right, when you enter the building. The dive well is at the far end of the pool.

Renaissance Montessori School (dryland) – 12625 Fitzwater Dr, Nokesville, VA 20181. When you pull in, drive to the back of the school. There is a building located next to the basketball goal, our gym is located in that building. Go in the propped double doors, don’t be alarmed, the building also doubles as a church. Our practice area is in the back of the church.

What should we bring to practice?

Suit and towel. Some divers like to have a dive shammy to dry off with in between dives to keep their towel from getting so wet but it is not required. Some divers like to wear a swim cap when diving, this is usually a personal preference and also not necessary. Goggles will fall off or may also cause injury when diving so I would leave those at home (this is not the same diving that swimmers do off the starting blocks).

Do you offer makeups for missed classes?

We do our best to work with everyone, but we can’t guarantee makeups for missed classes. If there is space in another group that your athlete can drop into, we will do our best to accommodate. If we cancel a class due to issues with the pool or any other reason, we will offer a replacement class for the missed class.

Do you allow drop in to classes?

Yes. Dropping in to a class is allowed, as long as their is space in the class. The rate is $35 and will need to be planned in advance and the athlete will need to be an active member of the club with a current AAU membership.

What is the $25 registration fee for?

We are an AAU registered club. A condition of our insurance is that all club members have an current AAU membership. AAU memberships are valid from September 1 through August 31. Any athlete participating in a session that crosses over into September will be required to have a current AAU membership to participate.

My athlete has a gymnastics background but has never dove before, what group will they go into?

As a general rule, gymnastics very easily transfers to diving. There are a few difference but gymnast usually pick up on these very quickly. If your gymnast can do a forward somersault and a backward somersault without help, on the ground, they will likely pick up diving pretty quickly. They should be enrolled in an advanced group. If you are still not sure, you can always enroll in a beginner group, and space permitting, we can move them later.

Can my athlete come try a class to see if they like it?

All athletes must have a current AAU membership to participate, for insurance reasons, and they are not allowed on the diving boards without it. For that reason, it is difficult to offer a trial class because the registration fee is not something we can waive.
At any time, you are welcome to bring your athlete to the pool and observe a class before deciding to sign up. Check our calendar page for information on practice days.
